Koo Ki-yeon showed the quality of a captain.
Hyper lost 14-37 to LM in the division 1 1st to 3rd place match at the '2023 Women's Club Basketball Festival with WKBL Chapter 1 with Pyeongchon Woori Hospital' held at Dowon Gymnasium in Incheon on the 15th. She gave up her strongest spot in this competition to LM.
Hyper won the EFS match 31-24. She was ahead by 22-9, so Hyper wasn't in a good mood. Moreover, because they faced LM immediately after the game, the burden on Hyper could have been great.
In such cases, the leader's role is important. The same goes for Koo Ki-yeon, who is the captain of Hyper. He is also a resource that can move widely on the court. He raised the team's energy level with his wide range of activities and active talking.
However, Koo Ki-yeon's dominance did not extend to the game. Moreover, Hyper, who played a practice match, lost in the energy battle. The first quarter ended with a score of 2-10.
The old season also needed a break. But he couldn't rest for long. This is because the stagnant atmosphere continued for a long time.
He went out onto the court again. The pass created an opportunity for his teammate to attack. But it wasn't finished. Hyper could not escape the offensive stagnation.
Nevertheless, Koo Ki-yeon did not let go of his role as captain. He encouraged the players who were depressed and also gave words of encouragement to the players who lost concentration. Although Hyper finished the first half with a score of 5-17, Koo Ki-yeon was holding out hope.
He also showed fighting spirit. He blocked Yoshikawa Imari's breakaway shot. Koo Ki-yeon's defense had great significance because he blocked one of LM's aces.
He also induced a foul free throw. After guiding the free throws, he encouraged his teammates to fight. Hyper's chase ended in defeat, but Koo Ki-yeon comforted his teammates despite the loss. He showed the quality of his argument until the end.
Meanwhile, Pyeongchon Woori Hospital, which specializes in spine and joints, served as the title sponsor of this competition. Starting with the Korea Basketball Association, Molten, the KBL and WKBL official ball, Stuff, a uniform customization company, and Bonus, a high-ent calcium brand, also sponsored the event.
