 The KIA Tigers are enduring the fallout from allegations of former coach Kim Jong-kook receiving bribes. KIA, which decided to terminate the manager's contract as the news of the arrest warrant's substantive review became known, plans to appoint the next manager as soon as possible. While opinions are divided over the possibility of internal promotion and external recruitment, attention is focused on coach Lee Jong-beom, who became free this winter.

On January 29, the KIA club said, “On the 28th, we suspended coach Kim Jong-guk from his duties, and today, through our own investigation, we confirmed that coach Kim Jong-guk is currently a suspect and is being investigated by the prosecution on charges of ‘breach of trust.’ Accordingly, regardless of the results of the prosecution's investigation, the club decided to terminate the contract with coach Kim Jong-guk, judging it to be an 'act damaging to dignity'. “The club plans to appoint a successor as soon as possible,” the club officially announced.

It is known that former coach Kim Jong-guk is suspected of receiving money or valuables from the club's sponsor. On January 24, the Seoul Central District Prosecutor's Office's Major Crimes Investigation Department (Chief Prosecutor Lee Il-gyu), which is investigating allegations of former director Jang Jeong-seok's bribery, applied for arrest warrants for former director Kim Jong-guk and former director Jang Jeong-seok. Former coach Kim Jong-guk and former general manager Jang Jeong-seok will attend the arrest warrant substantive review held on the morning of January 30th and await a ruling on whether or not they will be detained.
