“A new challenge with the last determination”

Park Gil-young (44), coach of Suwon FC Women in the women's professional soccer WK League, renewed his contract with the club at the end of last year, marking his 9th year with one team.

Coach Park, who was appointed coach of the predecessor Suwon City Facilities Management Corporation in 2015, served as acting coach in 2017 and has been in charge since 2018, when the team name was changed to Suwon City Facilities Management Corporation Women's Soccer Team.

Suwon FC Women are loved by fans for their hot attacking soccer, ranking first in scoring among teams in the WK League last season. However, due to a defensive ability that could not support the hot offense, even though they won the first game of last season's championship match, they conceded a large number of goals in the second game and ended up in second place.

Coach Park said, “I experienced burnout after last season. I entrusted this team to me for a long time, but even with full support, we were unable to produce results. “I had a lot of worries about whether I should keep going or not,” he said. “People around me gave me strength, and finally, I thought, ‘Let’s give it a try,’ so I decided to give it my strength again.”

He continued, “Before the start of last season, there were a lot of ridiculous goals conceded scenes that made the plan to score as many goals and concede as few goals as possible go to waste. “In winter training, we are focusing on strengthening defensive organization and increasing concentration on the second ball in attack,” he added.

Suwon FC Women's key players, Choo Hyo-joo and Tanaka Mebae (Japan), left at the end of last season, but Coach Park immediately began to block the variables through blood transfusion.

Coach Park said, “As a coach, I am very disappointed by the departure of key players. Fortunately, Kang Chae-rim will be brought in from Hyundai Steel to fill Mebae's void. In addition, Han Ha-in, who was recruited through the rookie draft, has good tactical skills and solid fundamentals. “We expect that they will be able to fill the shoes of the players who left,” he explained.

Regarding his aspirations for this season, Coach Park said, “I received a lot of consolation from the fans after last season, but that only lasted until last year. “As a coach, I have to show good soccer, but I have to produce results unconditionally,” he said. “This year, I will play more interesting soccer and show that I can get results.” “We hope that many fans will come to the stadium and support us,” he said.
