I share a drink with Chairman Koo Kwang-mo at the congratulatory ceremony.
LG, which won the Korean Series for the first time in 29 years, will hold a congratulatory party on the 17th.
LG will hold a celebration banquet this afternoon at LG Science Park in Magok-dong, Gangseo-gu, Seoul, with Group Chairman Koo Kwang-mo, LG athletes, and the Executive Twins Club in attendance.
The legacy of late Chairman Koo Bon-moo, a subject of public interest, will also be revealed on this day. First of all, the Awamori lid stored in the feed room of the LG Champions Park accommodation in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province, will be opened for the first time in 28 years. It is a 'legendary drink' that started in the spring of 1994 when Chairman Koo Bon-moo, who visited the Okinawa spring camp, shared this drink at a team dinner and suggested, "If we win this season, let's toast with this drink at the congratulatory party." LG, who drank alcohol at the event of winning its second championship in the fall of that year, thought it was a pleasant jinx and returned home with this alcohol even after completing training the following year. However, it had not been held for 28 years until last year. There were three cans of soju purchased in 1995, but they gradually evaporated and were combined into one jar a few years ago. About three-quarters of the existing soju remains, and LG flew to Okinawa ahead of the Korean Series and purchased two new cans to make up for the shortage.
The question was whether the remaining awamori could actually be consumed, but according to the LG team, after recently consulting an expert, it was concluded that it was harmless to the human body. Executives, including Chairman Koo Kwang-mo, plan to taste it in person.
The Rolex watch that Oh Ji-hwan expressed his intention to return also appears at the congratulatory ceremony. It was a luxury item worth 80 million won when Chairman Koo bought it during an overseas business trip in 1998, saying he would give it to the MVP of the Korean Series. Oh Ji-hwan, who was selected as MVP, said in an interview, “Considering its symbolism, I would like to return it to Chairman Koo Kwang-mo and display it in the historical records room where many people can see it.”
LG accepted Oh Ji-hwan's wishes and plans to hold a 'return ceremony' immediately after delivering it that day.
